Caption: Tangential section through the blue cone pedicle of turtle retina.
The blue photoreceptor is a cone that ends in a bulb or pedicle (BC) Note the secondary neuronal inputs (yellow, red, purple) which are cells that transmit information to the turtle brain can see the color blue. The synaptic ribbons (purple) illustrate the synapse between the diads and triads (also annotated). Methods: Hitachi H600 Electron Microscope. Fixed in dalton chrome osmium.

This is definitely a tangential electron micrograph of retina from the ref-eared slider but is not a blue cone pedicle.
Instead, the micrograph contains a UV cone pedicle which is common in the red eared slider. The morphology of the UV pedicle is defined by the small compact and somewhat circular pedicle and sits much lower in the pedicle layer than the red, green and blue cone pedicles. My mistake.
