Turtle Retina :: Electron Microscopy
Caption: Tangential section through the blue cone pedicle of turtle retina.
The blue photoreceptor is a cone that ends in a bulb or pedicle (BC)
Note the secondary neuronal inputs (yellow, red, purple) which are cells that transmit information to the turtle brain can see the color blue.
The synaptic ribbons (purple) illustrate the synapse between the diads and triads (also annotated).
Methods: Hitachi H600 Electron Microscope. Fixed in dalton chrome osmium.
Magnification: 60,000X

Red Blood Cells
Caption: Red blood cells are the most the common type of blood cell and deliver oxygen from the lungs to body tissue. These cells consist mostly of iron righ hemoglobin molecules that link to oxygen molecules in the lungs and distribute oxygen throughout the body. Hemoglobin also links with carbon dioxide waste product for removal by the lungs.
