I decided to put this entry under "Technology" because I was consumed with my blogging (technology) while this even occurred.
The event is a complete destruction of my son's room by my daughter. When I was finally drawn to the disaster from my focus on technology I found a pile of diapers, clothes, wipey blocks, etc. Their faces told me that they were proud of their creation.
Then my wife walked in from an errand to borrow some skis. She knew I had checked out as I often do trying to "investigate an idea".
Why does technology do this? For me it is a bit of addiction in finding a new, improved solution to an issue we are having with our products. The promise is a more elegant, efficient solution that our customers will benefit from. This is our singular focus. That is our addiction
However, it does remind me that there are people at the other end of the solution. Despite our goals of improving things for people (our customers) we need to maintain a personal, social connection with them so that we REALLy know what they find valuable, not we THINK they need because of the lure of technology.
Just like with my kids; if left alone there will be a mess.
This is my lesson for the day--at home; at work.
